Peaches
At Pearson Farm, we've gained a reputation for growing some of the sweetest and juiciest peaches in the country, and we love sharing our favorite summer fruit with the world. Our orchards are filled with over forty delicious varieties, each with a distinct color, texture, and sweetness all its own. With roots this deep in the heart of the peach state, we’ve learned to treasure this amazing fruit and the soil that grows it.
SWEET HISTORY OF PEACHES
Did you know that peaches are not originally from southern soil? Their original homeland was China, with peaches reaching Mexico sometime during the 1600’s. Eventually, the Spanish brought peaches to the coast of Florida and they eventually spread throughout the nation. In the 19th century, peach farming became a commercial endeavor and started transforming the peach industry. Small farms gave way to the vast peach orchards you see today.
Fort Valley, Georgia became a major hub for the peach industry in the latter part of the 19th century because of its mild climate and rich, red clay soil. From 1922 to 1926, Fort Valley held an annual Peach Blossom Festival which attracted up to 40,000 visitors each March. Then, in 1986, the town hosted the first annual Georgia Peach Festival to promote Peach County and celebrate the thriving peach industry and its contribution to the livelihood of the local residents. This annual festival is still celebrated today!
Our Peach Legacy
Our farm’s story began more than 135 years ago. It started in 1885 when Lockie and Emma Pearson moved from Woodbury, Georgia to the small town of Zenith. They planted peaches and cut timber to provide for their large family.
Over the years and a few family generations, Pearson Farm has become a powerhouse for growing the decadent Georgia peaches we’ve all come to love. Our farm’s history tells the story of a family that held firm to the values of hard work, faith and family that still bind us together today. That dedication is one that we aim to deliver to you through our fresh peaches, pecans or baked favorites created in our small slice of the South.
